GTA 6 Story Mode Progression Guide: Practical Guide

Grand Theft Auto VI is scheduled for 19 November 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, and the story campaign is what many players will start with. This guide is about planning your own progression sensibly while most campaign details remain unannounced.

Start from the confirmed facts

Rockstar has shown enough to plan around, but not enough to map out the campaign. The game is set in the fictional state of Leonida, which includes Vice City, and it follows two protagonists, Jason and Lucia, who appeared in the official trailers released in December 2023 and May 2025. The release date moved twice: the game was first announced for Fall 2025, then set for 26 May 2026, and now 19 November 2026. A PC version has not been officially announced.

Confirmed information is collected on Rockstar's official Grand Theft Auto VI page, and that is the page to compare against whenever a video or forum thread claims to know how the story unfolds. As of October 2026 there is no official mission list, no published trophy or achievement list and no confirmed breakdown of chapters.

Two protagonists, one plan

A story with two leads changes how you might pace yourself, even before the details are known. You do not need to know how the game switches between Jason and Lucia to decide how you like to play. Some players want to follow the main thread closely and finish it before anything else; others prefer to wander, letting the plot wait while they explore.

Decide which type you are before launch night. It sounds trivial, but it is the most useful choice you can make now, because it determines whether you should avoid spoilers for weeks or simply play at your own pace without worrying about them. The Ultimate edition also includes extra vehicles, weapons, apparel and some locations tied to Jason and Lucia's story, so if you bought it, expect a little more to sort through early on.

Choosing a completion goal

Grand Theft Auto V had a 100% completion checklist and a full achievement and trophy list, so it is reasonable to expect something similar, but Rockstar has not announced it for GTA VI. Pick a goal that does not depend on unknown details:

  1. Story first: reach the ending, then decide whether to continue.
  2. Story plus curiosity: finish the main plot and follow any side activities that catch your interest.
  3. Completionist: wait for the official trophy or achievement list, then plan a checklist once it is published.
  4. Comfort run: play in short sessions with no target at all, stopping whenever the fun stops.

Write your choice down somewhere visible. A goal you can see is easier to keep than one you only half remember three weeks later.

Accessibility: what to look for on day one

Rockstar has not published a list of accessibility features for GTA VI, so nothing specific can be promised here. What you can do is prepare a short checklist and go through the settings menu before the first mission: subtitle size and background, control remapping, camera and aiming assistance, motion and screen-shake options, and audio balance between dialogue, music and effects. If an option you rely on is missing, note it and check later updates and the official page rather than assuming it will never arrive.

Outside help with story completion

Services that offer to progress or complete a story campaign for you already list GTA VI, even though the game is not out. Reading this GTA 6 page on a service site shows how such offers are usually described, which is useful context, but a description is not a guarantee of anything. Most of these services involve another person logging into your account, and account sharing can violate the platform's and publisher's terms of service and can lead to penalties.

Before using any service, check:

  • whether it requires your login details or only plays alongside you;
  • what the current Rockstar and console platform terms say about account sharing;
  • how refunds and disputes are handled, in writing;
  • whether the help you want could come from a friend or the game's own settings instead.

In a single-player story, the experience itself is usually the point, so it is worth asking whether you want the ending or the journey to it.

Set up the corner before launch

A long campaign is easier to enjoy when the play space is tidy. Boxed copies at launch contain a download code rather than a disc, so keep the code card in a labelled envelope or drawer instead of the box shelf. Route console and controller cables along the back of the furniture with clips or a cable sleeve, give controllers a fixed charging spot, and keep a small notebook nearby for your completion goals. A clear surface and a known place for every accessory make it easier to sit down for a session and to leave it behind afterwards.
